Title: USAF Laboratory Modernization (Florence, SC) SATIS, Inc. announces the completion of a major modernization project for the United States Air Force, Air Logistics Command (WRALC) at Robins AFB in Warner Robins, Georgia. The USAF Failure Analysis Laboratory, part of the Technology and Industrial Support Directorate, contracted with the Florence, South Carolina firm to provide a complete digital imaging laboratory including digital imaging devices for Scanning Electron Microscopes, Optical Stereo Microscopes and various other scientific instruments. The system, residing on a high-speed switched Ethernet network, provides lab personnel with photographic quality prints integrated into Failure Analysis reports through use of IntelliLab software developed by SATIS. A team of scientists and engineers use the system to assist with analysis of various military hardware components. The data generated by the team provides engineers the information needed to produce and maintain high quality and highly reliable components and systems for use in the nation's defense arsenal. The lab, in operation for over thirty years, had over 25,000 pages of paper documents and photographs in the Failure Analysis archive. As part of the project, SATIS scanned the documents into the IntelliLab system, generated a database of the documents and published the digital documents to a database onto a secure Web Site also put into place by SATIS. The documents, archived on CD-ROM media are stored on a CD Server with over 44,000 million bytes of capacity. The digital archive replaced expensive fireproof file cabinet storage. The entire Failure Analysis Library, complete with high-resolution color images, is now contained within a single CD Server and can be accessed from any workstation world-wide with a web browser. Each user workstation in the laboratory features dual large-screen monitors where analytical data can be viewed on one monitor simultaneous with the image data on the second monitor; both controlled by the same PC workstation. Critical data is automatically duplicated onto a file server where official reports are written to a CD and posted to the Web site as soon as they are complete. On demand, the entire document can be printed to a photographic quality printer, to laser printers or to one of the low-cost color printers for proofing. SATIS provided the system turnkey including design, installation, training, digital cameras and digitizers, scientific instruments, hardware and software. The company continues their presence at the site with dedicated full time personnel on site to assist the Air Force with maintenance of the Web site, new record generation, document archival and to provide image processing expertise.
